From Marrakech To Fes
Departure From Marrakech At 8:00am
Begin your adventure by departing from Marrakech at 8:00 am. You’ll travel through the beautiful High Atlas Mountains and pass Tizi n’Tichka, the highest road in the area. Enjoy the amazing views, sweeping mountain scenery, and traditional Berber villages along the way. Stop for a coffee or tea and take in the peaceful surroundings.
Next, head to the famous Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, which has appeared in movies like Gladiator, The Mummy, and Game of Thrones. This historic site was once an important stop on the ancient Salt Road, where goods like gold, ivory, salt, and silk were traded.
After visiting the Kasbah, travel to Ouarzazate, called the “Gate of the Desert.” Then, continue to Dades Valley, passing through Skoura, Mgouna Valley (Roses Valley), and several more lovely Berber villages. You’ll spend your first night in Dades.
On Day 2, start your day by leaving Dades Valley in the morning. Your first stop is Todra, where you’ll visit one of Morocco’s most stunning and impressive canyons. Here, you can explore the canyon, listen to the peaceful river, and take in the breathtaking views.
Continue your trip through beautiful landscapes, passing many Berber villages and green oases. Soon, you’ll reach Erfoud, a town famous for its fossil factories, where skilled artisans turn ancient fossils into amazing art pieces.
Your day ends in the magical Merzouga. On the way, you’ll pass through the Saharian Oasis of Rissani. Depending on your arrival time, you can relax or start your camel ride to the desert Berber camp. The camel trek usually begins between 17:00 – 18:00 in summer and 15:00 – 16:00 in winter. After an hour of riding on the dunes, you’ll reach the desert camp and enjoy the beauty of the Sahara and a stunning sunset.
You’ll be treated to refreshing mint tea and a delicious local meal in the restaurant tent. As night falls, enjoy Berber music played by locals around the campfire. If it’s a clear night, don’t forget to look up and marvel at the starry sky. Please note, campfires are only lit during the colder months or when there’s no wind.
On Day 3, wake up early for an optional sunrise experience. After breakfast and a refreshing shower, you’ll set off on a morning camel trek back to Merzouga. Once there, you’ll meet up with your driver/guide to start your journey to Fes.
Along the way, you’ll pass through Errachidia, the largest city in the desert region. Stop to enjoy a stunning view of the Ziz Valley, then continue on to Medilt, known for its apples. You can have lunch here or drive a little further to the village of Zaida for a meal.
As you head toward Fes, you’ll pass through the Cedar forest of Azrou, where wild monkeys live. It’s a great chance to take photos of Morocco’s natural beauty and maybe interact with the monkeys, though they are wild and may not always be around.
Your trip continues to Ifrane, often called “Moroccan Switzerland” for its alpine feel. Finally, you’ll arrive in Fes, around 18:00 – 19:00, depending on how long you take for stops along the way and when you left in the morning.
