Explore the beauty of the remote Sahara of Morocco on this 3-day Chegaga desert tour from Zagora. Discover the lush Draa Valley, visit the ancient village of Tamgroute with its famous Islamic library and traditional pottery workshops, go on an exciting off-road expedition across the desert, meet local nomads, find hidden oases, and enjoy unforgettable nights under the stars in a traditional desert camp.
Your journey begins with pickup in Zagora. Head south to Tamgroute and visit the historic Islamic library, with its centuries-old manuscripts, and discover the village’s famous green pottery workshops. Continue to M’Hamid, the last village before the huge Sahara, where you will have lunch.
In the afternoon, leave the paved road and drive off-road by 4×4 through the desert to the magnificent dunes of Erg Chegaga, the biggest dunes in Morocco. Arrive at your desert camp, where you will enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner and spend the night under the spectacular Sahara sky.
After breakfast, head out to explore the untouched landscapes of the Erg Chegaga region. Visit a local nomadic family and learn about their traditional way of life before continuing to a quiet desert oasis. Lunch in the heart of the Sahara and back to camp for a little relaxation.
Late afternoon, take a memorable camel ride across the golden dunes with incredible panoramic views as the sun begins to set. Dinner and another overnight stay in the desert back to camp.
Rise early to see the sunrise over the dunes, then breakfast at camp. Then start the picturesque return journey through the desert to M’Hamid, and continue through the Draa Valley to arrive in Zagora, where your unforgettable Sahara adventure comes to an end.
This tour is operated exclusively in a comfortable, air-conditioned 4×4 vehicle, specially selected for the off-road sections and desert tracks leading to Erg Chegaga.
We recommend comfortable walking shoes, lightweight clothing, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, a warm layer for cooler evenings, and a small day backpack.
Yes, scorpions and snakes can be found in the Sahara Desert; however, sightings are rare, especially around established desert camps. These animals are naturally shy and tend to avoid human activity.
You will spend one night in a charming guesthouse near the Todra Gorges and one night in a comfortable desert camp in the Erg Chegaga dunes.
